About The Position

The Pharmacy Business Support team at Wellmark is experiencing a period of dynamic growth and increasing complexity. With evolving responsibilities across supporting customer service, new business, compliance, appeals, interdepartmental coordination, and benefit management, the team is consistently balancing strategic initiatives with high-volume operational demands. Interns will gain valuable experience within the health insurance industry and put the skills and knowledge acquired in school to practice during the 2026 Summer Internship Program. Interns will have the opportunity to learn from subject matter experts and leaders within the industry, network with fellow internship program participants, and gain practical, hands-on work experience.

Requirements

  • Current junior, senior or grad student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Process Management, Healthcare Management, Public Health, Analytics or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate recommendations to all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships of collaboration and trust.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-starter, ability to prioritize and multi-task.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience creating business process maps or flow charts.
  • Prior experience in healthcare or previous internship or office experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day experiences of collaboration and partnership with various leaders and teams; focus on small scale deliverables, building interpersonal relationships, exposure to cross divisional elements of the Wellmark organization.
  • Conduct side by sides with Pharmacy Business Support team to identify opportunities to streamline and optimize processes.
  • Assist with development of desk level procedures and process maps to support recommendations.
  • Work closely with Pharmacy Business Support Seniors and Leads to develop a process to analyze call data and feedback loops to identify pain points in pharmacy-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Business Support Leads to develop a benefits guide and process for continual adds for new benefits.
  • Assist with current Pharmacy Business Support product rollout.
