Job Description: Plans and provides clinical support to patients and staff; as well as provides clinical leadership, financial and personnel management within the department. Participates in quality improvement processes for the department. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to organize and provide care that is appropriate to the condition of all patients. Coordinates, and manages day-to-day operation of the pharmacy department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: I. Clinical The pharmacist will ensure that all orders are correct with respect to dose, route, dose schedule and are not contraindicated due to diagnosis, allergies or current therapy. The pharmacist will consult with physicians when appropriate or when requested to recommended changes in therapy and to provide drug information. The pharmacist will consult with nursing staff to provide information to support the nurse’s responsibilities for administering chemotherapy, monitoring drug therapy and providing patient education. II. Supervising Pharmacy Department Operation The pharmacist appropriately supervises pharmacy technicians by delegating appropriate tasks and checking for accuracy. The pharmacist communicates frequently with pharmacy technicians and use effective supervisory skills. Assures staff complies with safety, health policies and procedures of the clinic and ensures patient care is delivered in a safe manner consistent with health promotion. Maintains staff productivity to budgeted standards and assures that budgetary parameters are maintained. Support and assist staff with identifying and solving departmental problems and maintain interpersonal/professional relationships to prevent job related issues and low moral. Monitors, analyzes, assesses and communicates the growth of services within the department All other duties as assigned.
