About The Position

Under general supervision, the Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications according to professional standards and regulatory requirements. This role ensures accurate preparation, documentation, and delivery of medications while maintaining compliance with legal, safety, and quality assurance protocols. The Pharmacist serves as a resource for nursing and medical staff, providing guidance on prescriptions, drug interactions, and patient counseling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current state licensure as a Pharmacist.
  • 0-3 years of experience as a registered pharmacist (Oncology experience preferred).
  • Ability to supervise pharmacy technicians.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, compounding, and regulatory compliance.
  • Full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medication orders accurately and timely.
  • Review patient profiles and drug data files to identify incompatibilities or potential issues.
  • Verify completeness of orders, patient information, and physician authorization.
  • Confirm insurance approval prior to admixture; prepare drugs per OSHA and departmental guidelines.
  • Calculate correct dosages, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Oversee pharmacy technicians' workflow, verifying preparation, labeling, and order entries.
  • Provide pharmacological information and counseling to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and professional requirements, including controlled substances.
  • Consult with patients regarding pre-existing conditions, food/alcohol interactions, and potential side effects.
  • Participate in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs.
  • Maintain accurate logs for drug usage, temperature checks, and inventory control.
  • Dispose of materials properly and clean admixture hoods per protocol.
  • Order, receive, and stock medications; ensure adequate supply in all departments.
  • Prepare labels, billing, and compute pricing.
  • Stay current on new drug information and maintain confidentiality of patient data.
  • Prepare reports and monitor activities as directed.
