About The Position

Join a high-volume, technology-enabled Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) team delivering safe, accurate, and timely medications to Veterans nationwide. You’ll perform clinical verification, drug utilization review (DUR), and quality checks while overseeing advanced automation and packaging systems in a central-fill environment.

Requirements

  • ACPE-accredited PharmD or B.S. in Pharmacy.
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in a U.S. state/territory.
  • U.S. Citizenship; proficiency in written/spoken English.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts (including potential evenings/weekends/holidays).
  • Strong attention to detail in high-volume, metrics-driven environments; proficient with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3+ years in hospital, central fill/mail order, or high-throughput outpatient settings.
  • Experience with DUR, quality control, controlled substances, and robotics/packaging systems.
  • Residency (PGY1) and/or board certification (e.g., BCPS); Lean/Six Sigma or process-improvement experience.
  • Familiarity with VA systems (VistA/CPRS) and e-prescribing workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pharmaceutical verification of prescription orders of legend, OTC, Medical Surgical (Med/Surg), and Controlled Substances to patients requiring care.
  • Assessment of drug order and cross match with medication presented at checking stations.
  • Pre-verification of medications loaded into highly specialized mechanical apparatus to dispense medications in prescription bottles.
  • Verification and fill of controlled substance orders, schedules III, IV, and V.
  • Perform Quality Assurance functions and supervision of contracted Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Follow CMOP policies regarding documentation and reports to meet VA and TJC policy.
  • Note any unusual doses, wrong drug, wrong strength, or drug mix up and report the information in accordance with local CMOP policies.
  • Provide full checking, labeling, and quality assurance within the guidance (written VHA handbooks, written CMOP policies, and training that will be provided by the CMOP) of the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding pharmaceutical medications.
  • Dispense medications within corporate and regulatory guidelines for controlled substances
  • Must be able to follow SOP and procedures as required.
  • Must be able to understand the precautions required when handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste
