About The Position

The Pharmacist works closely with medical and nursing staff to ensure that patients receive the best treatment, advising on the selection, dose and administration route. The Pharmacist provides help and advice to patients in all aspects of their medications. The Pharmacist may provide supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Clerks and Pharmacy Interns.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Current Pharmacist License in the state of California
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of California
  • Must exercise sound professional judgment and use initiative consistent with knowledge of clinical drug use and the patient
  • Requires ability to work under general direction
  • Requires a very high degree of accuracy
  • Requires the safety of patients of all ages and department being supervised
  • Ability to understand, interpret, explain, and comply with laws, regulations, and polices governing pharmacy operations

Nice To Haves

  • One year of hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescription orders to ensure that there are no errors and that they are appropriate and safe for the individual patient
  • Provides advice on the dosage of medications and the most appropriate form of the medications
  • Provides clinical drug information to medical staff, nursing staff, and students
  • May participate in the decision making process of drug selection
  • Maintains patient record system to monitor a patient's drug therapy for safety and efficiency
  • Compounds prescriptions/intravenous drug mixtures
  • Dispenses prescriptions using industry standard pharmaceutical technique
  • May participate in ward rounds, taking patient drug histories and involvement in decision making on appropriate treatments
  • Consults with other medical staff on problems patients may experience when taking their medications
  • Responsible for control of drug inventory, supplies and floor stock
  • Responsible for ensuring medication is stored appropriately and securely
  • Prepares and quality checks IV sterile compound preparations
  • Responsible for correct preparation of patient charge document
  • May be a member of the cardiac resuscitation team
  • Supervision of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Clerks and Interns
  • Participates in teaching of pharmacy students where applicable
  • May prepare and present clinical conference to nurses on drugs in use
  • Participates in professional association activities and maintains professional association memberships
  • Responsible for following department policies and procedures
  • May assist in development of policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Performs other related duties as required
