About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. The facility provides outpatient behavioral health services and operates a sixteen-bed psychiatric inpatient unit. CRMHC is looking for a temporary placement pharmacist for a period of approximately three and a half months. The position will report to the CRMHC full-time Pharmacist and the CRMHC Medical Director. The position is Monday – Friday: 1st shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. On-call is not a component of the position. The temporary placement pharmacist will assist and be directly supervised by the CRMHC Pharmacist. The position involves providing pharmacy services to a proportion of the CRMHC outpatient clients and all the clients on the sixteen-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. The successful candidate will have experience working with behavioral health clients, able to communicate effectively, work well with pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff, and have familiarity with word processing and pharmacy software systems (experience with a Pyxis system is preferred). The candidate will need to have successfully graduated from a US accredited pharmacy program. Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist issued by the Connecticut State Department of Consumer Protection is required. Position Summary The Pharmacist is responsible for preparing, dispensing, and reviewing prescription medications while ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and regulatory compliance in accordance with Connecticut Pharmacy Law and Board of Pharmacy regulations. The Pharmacist provides expert guidance on medication therapy management, counsels patients on proper medication use, and collaborates with healthcare professionals to optimize treatment outcomes. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

Requirements

Active and unrestricted Connecticut Pharmacist License .
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Current CPR/BLS certification (as applicable).
Minimum 1–2 years of pharmacy experience preferred (retail, hospital, or clinical).
Strong understanding of Connecticut Pharmacy Practice Act and federal drug regulations.
Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
High level of accuracy, integrity, and professionalism.
Must be available a minimum of 3 days per week ; flexibility for evenings, weekends, or holidays preferred.

Nice To Haves

Certification in Immunization Administration (as permitted by Connecticut regulations).
Experience in compounding , long-term care , or clinical medication review .
Bilingual communication skills a plus.

Responsibilities

Accurately prepare, verify, and dispense prescription medications in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Review prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications.
Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects, interactions, and storage.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient medication records .
Supervise and support pharmacy technicians, ensuring proper workflow and quality assurance.
Monitor and manage controlled substances in accordance with DEA and Connecticut state laws.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to develop and optimize medication therapy plans.
Participate in medication therapy management (MTM) and patient care programs.
Ensure compliance with all OSHA, HIPAA, and Connecticut Department of Public Health standards.
Maintain proper inventory control, storage, and documentation of medications and supplies.
Stay current on pharmaceutical developments, emerging therapies, and changes in pharmacy regulations.
