About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Must meet all requirements for the GS-15 level including managing a complex medical center based pharmacy program.

Nice To Haves

  • An ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Residency Program.
  • A Research Program that is accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP).
  • Actively involved in committees or advisory/work groups at the VISN and/or National level.
  • An ongoing pharmacy student rotation in both the intermediate and advanced practice experience settings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises activities of all pharmacy staff including supervisors, pharmacists, technicians, and clerical staff.
  • Analyzes impact of committee actions, recommendations and formulates action plans for implementation for top management.
  • Prepares, revises, and implements pharmacy policies and procedures in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and VA standards to provide safe and effective drug selection, distribution, monitoring and drug usage evaluation (DUE).
  • Coordinates activities of the supervisors to organize work to maximize the productivity within available resources.
  • Develops new clinical programs, the maintenance of appropriate quality patient care and in providing quality assurance assessments and medication usage evaluation, through performance improvement quality assurance programs.
  • Responsible and accountable for the professional and administrative operations of the Pharmacy.
  • Establishes, controls, and monitors the inventory levels and turn-over rate of pharmacy supplies.
  • Teaches and guides supervisory staff in solving problems, adapting to procedural changes, and implementing new technological changes.
  • Maintains effective clinical pharmacy programs designed to maximize pharmaceutical benefits from both cost and patient outcome perspectives.
  • Provides opportunities for research conducted by the Pharmacy Service in connection with improvement of work operations, drug use, clinical services, and patient outcomes.
