As Children’s Wisconsin’s full‑service pediatric retail pharmacy, Skywalk Pharmacy provides comprehensive care for our patients—from providing medications for patients discharging from the hospital through our Meds to Beds program to filling specialty medications for patients from our specialty clinics. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 2:30pm – 11pm with a current weekend rotation of working 1 weekend every 7 weeks (Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6pm with time off during the week)

Requirements

  • PharmD in Pharmacy and completion of all required internship hours Required or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and completion of all required internship hours Required
  • Knowledge of drugs and other pharmaceuticals including the related laws and pharmaceutical storage/distribution requirements
  • Analytical ability to troubleshoot and investigate prescription problems with healthcare team.
  • Competent in non-sterile compounding.
  • Strong customer service skills to support a community pharmacy environment.
  • If administering vaccines, must meet all requirements as outlined in Wisconsin state statute (450.035 Administration of drug products and devices; vaccines)
  • License Pharmacist (40) - State of Wisconsin required

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive retail pharmacy services to patients and their families such as consultation, compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established policies and procedures as prescribed by physicians or other qualified prescribers.
  • Reviews prescriptions and obtains clarifications as necessary and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others to coordinate high quality pharmaceutical services.
  • Coordinates and closely reviews activities of pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth and efficient operations in accordance with federal and state regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and adult patient regarding their growth and development process.
  • Reviews medication orders to ensure that safe and appropriate pharmaceutical care is provided.
  • Supervises the day to day activities of the pharmacy technicians. Provides the final verification for the accuracy, validity, completeness and appropriateness of the medications/prescriptions prepared by a technician.
  • Prepares all forms of medication for the outpatient population, and where appropriate, administers vaccines, by dispensing prescriptions, documenting and profiling as required by law and charging items accordingly. Performs drug utilization reviews and medication therapy management.
  • Counsels patients, answers questions, and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Communicates order problems to appropriate Pharmacy personnel. Keeps staff informed of unfinished business and keeps current with department communications and tasks.
  • Closely monitors all controlled substance dispensing and purchasing.
  • Assists patients and their families with price transparency and comparisons of their medications.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and takes part in continuing education.
