About the Job General Summary of Position Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interaction and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects pre-authorizations etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions ensuring accurate input labeling and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff resolving issues requiring management intervention and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations. Performs final check on all completed prescriptions verifying the accuracy of input labeling and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs and prescription files. Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interactions and contraindications; handles DURs rejects preauthorizations etc.; communicates with third party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage reimbursement etc. Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe prompt and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx's requiring pre-authorizations and discusses alternatives as appropriate. Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a patient-by-patient basis. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Minimal Qualifications Education Licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland or District of Columbia (DC) required Experience 1-2 years Pharmacy experience preferably in retail required Licenses and Certifications PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist Current Maryland or DC Pharmacist license including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that state or district. required and CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. This position has a hiring range of USD $49.32 - USD $94.70 /Yr.
