About The Position

A pharmacist-pharmacy resident is required to comply with state and federal laws regulated by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Food and Drug Administration. In doing so, a pharmacist must maintain records for controlled substances, remove outdated or damaged drugs from inventory, supervise the work results of support personnel, maintain a current registration, and stay up to date with current standard practices and laws. The pharmacy resident serves as a postgraduate year one (PGY-1) resident for the period of one year in accordance with the American Health-System Pharmacists’ standards. The resident will work as member of the pharmacy department to further develop their pharmacy practice and leadership skills. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Rotating Shifts

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required
  • State of Texas License as a Registered Pharmacist within 90 days of hire
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily.

  • The individual must be able to: Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear.
  • Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff.
  • The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.

Responsibilities

  • Provides pharmacological information by answering requests of healthcare professionals and by monitoring drug therapy and advising on interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections
  • Ensures accuracy of entered orders and timely delivery of medications to the respective recipient
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Works with Antimicrobial Stewardship, Medication Reconciliation, and complete consults as requested.
  • Perform all tasks as designated by their pharmacist preceptor in each residency rotation.
