About The Position

The Pharmacist in Critical Care at UAB Medicine is responsible for providing patient-focused pharmacy services, including monitoring therapy, medication distribution, and education. This role emphasizes critical care areas such as trauma, neurovascular, surgical, and cardiac care, ensuring the appropriateness of medication therapy and optimizing patient outcomes through collaboration with healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) required.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-focused pharmacy services including monitoring of therapy, interventions, basic pharmacokinetics, education, and medication distribution.
• Assess the appropriateness of each medication prescribed based on the patient's diagnosis, condition, allergies, and medication history.
• Monitor patient-specific responses to prescribed therapies and optimize therapy by reviewing potential adverse drug reactions and drug interactions.
• Document patient's medication history profile and notify appropriate healthcare professionals regarding compliance or medication therapy issues.
• Ensure responsible distribution of medications for administration in assigned areas and triage orders to meet immediate patient care needs.
• Provide drug information to patients, family members, and healthcare professionals, sharing clinical observations and new information from medical literature.
• Support educational programs by mentoring pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents.
