About The Position

The position involves performing comprehensive pharmacist duties including interpreting prescriptions and dispensing medications, vaccines, and therapeutic agents. The pharmacist will consult with prescribers, nursing staff, and patients on medication use, ensuring that pharmacy operations comply with state and federal regulations and professional standards. Responsibilities also include administering vaccines and emergency medications, maintaining inventory, overseeing pharmacy security, and assisting with pharmacy administration tasks such as billing and insurance processing. The pharmacist will support quality assurance initiatives and serve as Interim Pharmacist-In-Charge as needed, while also training staff on regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) college of pharmacy program or other program recognized by the board as defined by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Equivalent to one year of experience as a licensed pharmacist working independently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to dispensing, storage, and recordkeeping of drugs, narcotics and poisons.
  • Thorough knowledge of all drugs, chemicals and supplies required in the operation of the Student Health Center pharmacy.
  • Working knowledge of automated pharmacy systems; and campus procurement and budgetary processes.
  • General knowledge of pharmacy administration and the requirements of serving as a Pharmacist-in-Charge.
  • Ability to compound and fill prescriptions; evaluate written prescription orders to determine ingredients needed and ensure proper dosages; review patient profiles against prescriptions for potential drug interactions and allergies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive pharmacist duties including interpreting prescriptions and dispensing medications, vaccines, and therapeutic agents.
  • Consult with prescribers, nursing staff, and patients on medication use.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state/federal regulations and professional standards.
  • Administer vaccines and emergency medications; furnish contraception, emergency contraception, PrEP/PEP, and medical abortion per California protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and handle pharmaceutical waste; ensure proper acquisition, storage, and documentation of drugs and supplies.
  • Oversee pharmacy security, confidentiality, and compliance during audits and inspections.
  • Assist with pharmacy administration, including billing, accounting, insurance processing, and transaction reconciliation.
  • Manage cash transactions and maintain drawer balances; handle refunds.
  • Support quality assurance, inventory audits, satisfaction surveys, and policy development.
  • Serve as Interim Pharmacist-In-Charge as needed; stay current on pharmaceutical laws and practices.
  • Train and update staff on regulations and standards; ensure full compliance with professional codes.
  • Participate in SHC initiatives, professional development, and cross-campus duties as required.
