About The Position

The Pharmacist at Black Hills Surgical Hospital in Rapid City, SD is responsible for reviewing prescriptions to ensure accuracy, evaluating the suitability of ingredients, and providing information regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. In a retail/community pharmacy setting, the Pharmacist interprets and dispenses both prescription and non-prescription medications to patients, actively responding to prescription issues and advising providers on medication selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects. The role includes counseling patients on medication prescriptions, monitoring health and progress in response to drug therapy, and utilizing new technology as the profession evolves. In a medical center or institutional setting, the Pharmacist reviews provider orders, provides drug information, assists in problem-solving, and delivers pharmaceutical care, which may include unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, outpatient prescriptions, and working with automated dispensing devices. The Pharmacist must assess the pharmaceutical needs of patients across various age groups and follow established regulations and standards governing pharmacy practice. The position may require acting as a shift supervisor and involves good written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions.
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations.
  • License in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Hospital experience or residency preferred.
