About The Position

The Pharmacist (Night Shift) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications during overnight hours, supporting continuous patient care in healthcare facilities or retail pharmacy settings. This position requires meticulous attention to detail to accurately interpret prescriptions, verify dosages, and counsel patients or healthcare providers on medication use and potential side effects. The pharmacist will collaborate closely with healthcare teams to manage inventory, monitor drug interactions, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Working the night shift, the pharmacist ensures that pharmaceutical services are available 24/7, addressing urgent medication needs and emergencies promptly. Ultimately, this role contributes to optimizing patient outcomes by providing expert pharmaceutical care during hours when resources may be limited and rapid decision-making is essential.

Requirements

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • A valid and active pharmacist license to practice in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and pharmacy law.
  • Experience working in a pharmacy setting, preferably with some exposure to night or extended shifts.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively counsel patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a compounding setting.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management software.
  • Experience in hospital or clinical pharmacy environments.
  • Additional training or certification in specialized pharmacy areas such as oncology or infectious diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently during night shift hours, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards.
  • Review and interpret prescriptions to verify accuracy, appropriateness, and potential drug interactions or contraindications.
  • Provide medication counseling and guidance to patients and healthcare professionals, addressing questions and concerns.
  • Manage inventory control, including ordering, stocking, and proper storage of medications to prevent shortages or expirations.
  • Maintain detailed records of dispensed medications, patient profiles, and regulatory documentation in accordance with pharmacy laws.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff to support emergency medication needs and provide clinical advice as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and quality assurance procedures specific to night shift operations.
