We are currently seeking a Pharmacist Intern to join our Community Pharmacy team. This position is part-time, 16 hours per period, with no benefits. The work schedule includes day/evening shifts and one shift every other weekend, with shifts ranging from 4 to 8 hours. We are particularly interested in interviewing UMN pharmacy school students who are currently enrolled in their 1st year of pharmacy school (anticipated graduation year 2029). The required work schedule includes one 4-hour weeknight shift per week and one weekend shift every other week. During the summer, interns may work up to 40-hour work weeks between our Community Pharmacy locations. The purpose of this position is to act as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug-related information and literature. The intern will maintain standards set by the department and translate policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy, performing within the scope of practice as defined by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.

  • Performs within intern scope of practice, under pharmacist supervision
  • Provides continuous, patient-specific assessment of the pharmacotherapy needs of a patient population, making real-time interventions with the medical staff and nursing staff to facilitate optimal drug therapy and facilitate the provision of other pharmacy services
  • Responsible for interpretation of physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, informing them of any errors, omissions, or discrepancies and, based on an evaluation of the patient's condition, suggests appropriate or alternate drug therapy to the physician
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and proper patient medication profiles, monitoring to ensure the proper choice of drug, dosage form, strength, length of therapy and interaction potential of the prescribed drug
  • Responsible for the dispensing, control and record keeping of all controlled substances
  • Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of, and conforming to legal requirements concerning the distribution of drugs, as well as good working knowledge of recent developments in the field of pharmacy
  • High school diploma required
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy or seeking admission within twelve months of hire
  • Active Pharmacy Intern License from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, obtained prior to start date
  • Six to twelve months pharmacy experience preferred
