About The Position

Position Summary: The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for the overall management, operation, and regulatory compliance of the pharmacy. This role ensures the safe and effective dispensing of medications, adherence to all applicable federal and state laws, and the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care. The PIC provides leadership to pharmacy staff, supports clinical services, and maintains efficient pharmacy operations aligned with organizational goals.

Requirements

Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy or Doctorate from an accredited School of Pharmacy or Foreign Equivalent, maintain a current Texas License and a current Texas preceptor license.
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Class A pharmacy setting, with 1 year of management experience preferred.
Can demonstrate excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking and effective use of time. Also able to handle and complete multiple tasks or projects with multiple deadlines.
Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with public and all levels of the organization.
Ability to operate computer and scanners
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, pharmacy management system software applications and electronic medical records
Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
Can demonstrate effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments
Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for (long) periods of time.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations.
Exposure to noise.
Exposure to blood and/or fluids.

Responsibilities

Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy operations, including oversight of controlled substances and recordkeeping requirements.
Serve as the designated Pharmacist in Charge with accountability for all pharmacy activities, including dispensing accuracy, medication safety, and regulatory adherence.
Oversee prescription review and verification to ensure appropriateness, accuracy, and patient safety.
Provide medication counseling and education to patients, promoting adherence and optimal therapeutic outcomes.
Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to support medication therapy management and improve patient care.
Supervise, train, and evaluate pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and volunteers.
Maintain pharmacy inventory, including procurement, storage, and monitoring of medications to ensure proper handling, security, and expiration control.
Oversee controlled substance management, including inventory, documentation, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure consistent and compliant operations.
Monitor and improve workflow efficiency to ensure timely and accurate prescription processing.
Establish and maintain quality assurance and medication safety programs, including reporting and investigating errors or discrepancies.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to pharmacy operations, utilization, and compliance as required.
Support audits, inspections, and accreditation processes by ensuring all documentation and practices meet regulatory standards.
Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, cost control, and resource planning for pharmacy operations.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to organizational initiatives that enhance patient care and operational effectiveness.
