About The Position

Pharmacist whose role is to provide oversight and management of a retail pharmacy operation. As pharmacist-in-charge (PIC), will be responsible for complying with all Board of Pharmacy requirements for pharmacy license and laws governing prescription dispensing. Role and Responsibilities Provide drug information and patient counseling as required by law. Maintain medication invoices, including controlled substance invoices. Perform inventories required by pharmacy law. Supervise staff pharmacists and support personnel, providing guidance and counseling. Supervise ordering pharmaceuticals and maintaining an adequate inventory to provide prescription services. Maintain and enforce policies and procedures to maintain efficient and accurate prescription service. Maintain good relationship with clinic management and clinical staff. Attend meetings with clinic staff as requested that support prescription services to clinic patients. Provide and present utilization reports as requested to support management of medication costs. Interpret medication orders/prescriptions and review patient’s medication profile for drug-drug interactions, appropriate dosing, and allergies. Maintain proper medication storage conditions and maintain temperature logs as required. Understand prescription billing requirements for different payors, including commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare-D. Provide oversight of medication distribution to remote clinic locations. Demonstrate and promote excellent customer service and conduct surveys to management patient and client satisfaction. Provide regular training to staff to maintain proficiencies as required by law. Facilitate training of pharmacists, technicians, clerks and shipping personnel. Maintain continuing education and training files. Provide oversight of competency development and assessment on a regular basis. Manage personnel, supplies and drug inventory to maximize return on investment. Manage multiple inventories and assist with audits of any and all discrepancies Provide feedback when necessary to improve efficiencies Enforce Policy and Procedures with all staff and get approval for any changes in process that are needed, which will require an update to Policies Communicate regularly with Specialty Services Division VP with information on all clinic related issues or concerns, as well as any pharmacy related operational issues. Maintain equipment in working order and according to pharmacy law Conduct staff performance evaluations. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some standing, walking, bending, and reaching may be required. Regularly operates in an office or home office setting which involves utilizing a computer, mouse, keyboard, and occasionally operates other standard office equipment, such as printer, copier, phone. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy; Pharm.D. preferred
  • Holds an active license from the Texas Board of Pharmacy; license is in good standing
  • Minimum of two years of pharmacist practice in retail, ambulatory, or hospital outpatient settings.
  • Minimum of one year of managing technicians and/or pharmacist as a supervisor.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking responsibility for some aspect of regulatory compliance, i.e. quality, confidentiality, inventory.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate with prescribers and patients.
  • Demonstrates business acumen to meet financial goals for the pharmacy.
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of medication use and disease management.
  • Demonstrates computer skills necessary to manage prescription dispensing and review of financial reports.
  • Understand quality control procedures and confidentiality requirements.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel software.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage personnel.
