About The Position

A pharmacist I works under minimal supervision to assess, prepare, dispense and assist in coordinating all day-to-day dispensing functions of the pharmacy in a timely and accurate manner. The pharmacist will use their knowledge, skills and clinical judgment through reviewing orders to ensure safe and effective medication therapy. They will evaluate appropriateness of dose, route and formulation, allergies, medication interactions, monitoring, etc. The pharmacist will have frequent communication with other healthcare professionals as a drug information resource and provide educational information to ensure great patient care. They will report adverse drug events and medication safety events. They will document interventions in the medical record. The pharmacist will work as a team member to efficiently and accurately perform day-to-day work along with any additional tasks or projects to help achieve departmental goals. A pharmacist I will assist with technician and student supervision/direction as it relates to day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services. They will assist with prioritizing day-to-day workflow based on immediate need and a rapidly changing workload.

Requirements

  • Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas, or eligibility for licensure by the State of Arkansas

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D.
  • 2 years of applicable pharmacy experience

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and interprets prescribers' orders and detects appropriateness of therapy; prepares and dispenses medications.
  • Prepares sterile admixtures using proper aseptic technique.
  • Prepare/handle hazardous medications (including chemotherapy) and controlled substances according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Answers questions from physicians and nurses.
  • Utilize their knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment to provide effective and safe patient care.
  • Report adverse drug events and medication safety events, and document interventions in the medical record.
  • Will have frequent communication with other healthcare professionals as a drug information resource and provide educational information to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assists leadership in all aspects of pharmacy operations in the area of assigned responsibility.
  • Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy service line and the assigned practice area.
  • Works well as part of a team and with all shifts.
  • Displays a positive attitude that contributes to the overall morale of the pharmacy team.
  • Corrects, rather than ignores, problems involving any issues within the medication use process or normal operation of the pharmacy.
  • Promotes a safe working environment by adhering to the UAMS patient safety plan and ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Adheres to pharmacy laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensures equipment, technology, and facilities are used, calibrated, and maintained properly (Hexmodal, KitCheck, Pyxis, cleanroom, etc).
  • Completes assigned cleaning/compliance/documentation appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned, including staffing at sites at the UAMS Little Rock campus that are covered by the pharmacy for perioperative services
