About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Staff Pharmacist is the compounding and dispensing of medications in accordance with Hospital policy, professional standards and state and federal regulations. This position will have the ability to float to all NCH affiliates as needed for coverage with a home site of Weeks Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.
  • Current New Hampshire pharmacy license.
  • Training and/or experience specific to pharmaceutical dosages and practices regarding pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients is required.
  • Good verbal communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with computer applications required.
  • Must have technical aptitude and a willingness to learn software applications used at AVH.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in institutional pharmacy with working knowledge of intravenous admixtures, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, and unit-dose systems is preferred.
  • Experience with computer systems and their application to the clinical, clerical and operational aspects of hospital pharmacy is desired.

  • Compounds and dispenses medications in accordance with Hospital policy, professional standards and state and federal regulations.
  • Provides clinical services within the scope of responsibility.
  • Contributes to the preparation of Pharmacy newsletters and the Hospital formulary.
  • Complies with the requirements of the DEA, the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy and other accrediting and regulatory agencies concerning the receipt, storage, distribution and use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assesses the patient for risk or potential of neglect or abuse. Makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Reports complaints of pain to appropriate medical personnel.
  • Counsels patients on proper medication use.
  • Maintains a current level of professional, clinical and technical skills.
  • Maintains statistics and documentation as necessary.
  • Assures that supplies of pharmaceuticals and intravenous fluids are adequate to meet routine demands.
  • Routinely reviews medication orders for core measure diagnoses (community acquired pneumonia, congestive heart failure, pneumococcal vaccine, flu vaccine, etc.) for the presence of required elements. Contacts prescriber when required elements are missing or not addressed.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude. Is familiar with computer applications. Is willing to learn software applications.
  • Assists in the planning, development and implementation of departmental programs and operations.
  • Assists in developing departmental goals.
  • Assists in the development of a departmental budget.
  • Operates in a fiscally sound manner with consideration for the consumption of resources.
  • Contributes to staff and/or community education.
  • Assists in the annual review and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
