About The Position

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services(Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services), imaging, and wound care. The Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Clinical Specialist is responsible for demonstrating an expertise in medication reconciliation and emergency medicine, serving as a resource in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients in the emergency department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required; Pharm.D. preferred.
  • Completion of a 1-year emergency pharmacy practice residency, specialty residency, emergency/trauma certification, or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.
  • Current licensed pharmacist in South Carolina.
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS certification required for ED/FED.

Responsibilities

  • Medication Reconciliation is the primary role of the ED pharmacist.
  • In collaboration with the nursing staff, perform routine review and correction of home medication lists for patients admitted into the hospital via the ED, and for behavioral health patients being held in the FLEX area.
  • Respond to all code STEMI patients while on duty to provide any assistance and immediate verification of orders or putting in the orders at the bedside for the provider.
  • Review for recommendation for aspirin on arrival.
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners.
  • Suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
  • Be on standby for procedural sedations to provide medication recommendations and help to dose medications.
  • Draw up the sedation medications and enter the order in Cerner with correct times and dosages.
  • Interpret and verify medication orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate, complete pharmacy patient medication profiles.
  • Knowledgeable of and comply with laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy.
