The CVICU Clinical Specialist Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care activities to ensure safe and effective drug therapy through the provision of clinical pharmacy services. The CVICU Clinical Specialist Pharmacist delivers pharmaceutical care services by monitoring and intervening in therapeutics to provide optimum outcomes in a cost-effective manner. The CVICU Clinical Pharmacist fulfills departmental responsibilities within the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.

  • Utilize good problem-solving abilities, making sure that problems are resolved, calling on other knowledgeable parties as necessary.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispense accordingly.
  • Consult with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient reactions, errors and complaints.
  • Determine and consult on possible drug interactions.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives, inventory and ordering of pharmaceuticals.
  • Monitor, record and communicate as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Utilize knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Current TN Pharmacist licensure or eligible for licensure
  • One-year hospital experience or equivalent
  • Hospital pharmacy residency preferred
  • Excellent communication and computer skills
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Doctorate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
  • Previous experience in CVICU highly desired
