Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is a 763-bed academic medical center affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. As an academic facility with a Level I trauma center, this tertiary care institution has numerous post-graduate training programs, including multiple medical and surgical residencies and fellowships. The Crystal Spring Tower, which opened in July 2025, is the new home of the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) as well as an expanded emergency department. The CVI includes a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center, a Cath Lab which performs over 700 PCIs annually, a Ventricular Assist Device Program, and is considered an Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Center of Excellence. This job share opportunity will involve two regular part-time individuals working in a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist capacity. The priority of the job share is to fulfill Monday-Friday coverage of the cardiac ICU (CCU) service, which also includes patients on the progressive care telemetry unit as they transition from CCU. The job share Clinical Specialist will develop and maintain a clinical practice by participating in bedside rounds and responding to medical emergencies. Furthermore, the Specialist will provide decentralized pharmaceutical care to non-cardiac, medical intensive care patients within the ICU. The Specialist acts as a liaison to assist with cardiovascular pharmacotherapy issues for non-intensive care medical cardiovascular services and procedural areas (cardiac catheterization lab, electrophysiology lab, inpatient cardiac team, cardiology consult team, electrophysiology team, advanced heart failure team, structural heart team, and pulmonary hypertension team), as needed. To meet part-time work hour allocation, any overlapping availability of job share pharmacists will be scheduled as coverage support for adult ICU teams or decentralized zones as needed. All non-direct patient care activities will be shared amongst the job share pharmacists. Responsibilities include collaborating with members of CVI to develop policies and protocols that provide effective and efficient use of medications, providing consultation for other health care providers, educating patients and other health care providers, and reviewing and processing medication orders. This position would also involve relevant committee representation, staff education, and precepting pharmacy students. The specialist is directly involved in precepting PGY1 pharmacy residents and PGY2 pharmacy residents in critical care and internal medicine. These residency duties include but are not limited to precepting direct patient care rotations, clinical research, medication use evaluations, presentations, and process improvement projects.

  • Fulfill Monday-Friday coverage of the cardiac ICU (CCU) service.

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
  • Current Virginia pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure.
  • ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency or three years of previous clinical pharmacy experience in a relevant care setting.
  • Specialized PGY2 residency training in Cardiology or Critical Care.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
