About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a full-time pharmacist to join our Pharmacy department. The position is located at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, and involves a rotating work shift. The pharmacist will be responsible for approving the ordering of medications, overseeing the compounding, preparation, and dispensing of medications, and supervising pharmacy technicians. The role requires adherence to state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
  • 1 year of relevant acute care pharmacy experience or successful completion of an accredited pharmacy practice residency required.
  • Pharm D preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Pharmacist upon hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Approves the ordering of medications for patients treated at the medical center.
  • Oversees and directly contributes to compounding, preparation, and dispensing of medications.
  • Understands and follows departmental and hospital policy and procedures related to dispensing of medications.
  • Dispenses medications accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Independently resolves problem medication orders appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Processes/validates medication orders utilizing current information system technology.
  • Directs and supervises the work of technicians to ensure appropriate workflow.
  • Checks all products requiring pharmacist approval prior to dispensing.
  • Participates in departmental quality assurance processes.
  • Develops or participates in clinical practice by interacting with healthcare professionals.
  • Monitors assigned patient populations for clinical progress.
  • Documents clinical activities and interventions regularly.
  • Participates in education of other Pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Identifies need for patient teaching and performs such tasks when necessary.
  • Proactively identifies patient care problems and resolves them.
  • Performs required duties of 'charge pharmacist' when scheduled.
  • Contacts supervisor for assistance when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
