About The Position

The Public Health Adviser plays an integral role in providing preventative health services for students in NYC schools. Reporting to the Data Entry Supervisor, the Public Health Adviser will assist with ensuring all prescriptions are updated in the system.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education or in health, social or biological sciences.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of full-time satisfactory experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Public Health Adviser (School Health), Assignment Level I.
  • Additional experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review incoming mail for prescriptions listed on Eye Report and Recommendation forms (E12s) provided by a student's optometrist.
  • Verify OSIS # by checking the name and date of birth to ensure it corresponds with the correct student.
  • Enter Ophthalmologist and Optometrist exam results for Eye report and recommendations (E12s) into the Automated Students Health Records (ASHR) database.
  • Contact schools, doctor's offices, and parent for missing information.
  • Review and enter completed E12's prior to returning to school nurse.
  • Enter data accurately and in a timely manner into Automated Student Health Record (ASHR) - prepare paperwork for filing.
  • Key-in non-priority forms from assigned borough in correct order, after priority forms are completed.
  • Other clerical duties, filing, photocopying, faxing etc.
  • City Wide travel and flexibility with location of assignment may be required based on programmatic needs.
