About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, and according to standard procedure the Pharmacy Resident (Pharmacy Practice or Specialty) is a pharmacist in training who provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, clinical services and teaching. The resident provides services consistent with other services provided by pharmacists at UC Health. The resident training program is jointly supported by the corporate department of UC Health Pharmacy Services. Requirements

  • PharmD. Applicants to international programs are graduates or candidates for graduation from a pharmacy degree program that is a minimum of five years in duration.
  • Residents must obtain Ohio pharmacist licensure in the first third of the program to ensure two-thirds of the residency is completed as a licensed pharmacist based on ASHP requirements. If not licensed in Ohio by the residency start date, the candidate must obtain an Ohio Intern License.
  • No experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population-appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Provides Pharmaceutical care by assisting physicians or providing direct patient care by: Reviewing patient's medication history Educating patients on drug therapy Establishing desired outcomes Assessing patient demographics Developing pharmacotherapeutic plans Determining alternatives for achieving outcomes Developing drug monitoring plans
  • Conducts one medication use evaluation and reports results to the appropriate UC Health committee.
  • Develop a research project plan to evaluate pharmacotherapy, implement a project plan, collect data, analyze data, and assess potential or future changes aimed at improving pharmacy practice, improvement of clinical care, patient safety, healthcare operations, or specific questions related to patient care.
  • Participate in committee meetings, take meeting minutes, contribute to departmental planning
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and interpersonal skills
  • Manage entrusted responsibilities
  • Demonstrate responsibility and professional behaviors
  • Precepts Pharm.D. students consistent with academic credentials and clinical experience
  • Provide effective medication and practice-related education
  • Construct educational activities such as pharmacy grand rounds and morbidity, mortality, and improvement conference
  • Create written education to disseminate knowledge related to specific content, medication therapy and/or practice area
