About The Position

Pharmacists completing this PGY1 residency will be competent practitioners of direct patient care in an acute care environment. As members of the health care team, they will be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes in a variety of acute care patients including internal medicine, infectious diseases, critical care, oncology, and pediatric patients. The resident will develop and exercise skills in educating other health care providers and patients. They will develop leadership skills by taking an active role in medication safety and performance improvement efforts. The resident will demonstrate professional maturity by exhibiting a commitment to the profession, and developing a mechanism for personal life-long learning. The PGY1 resident will report to the PGY1 Residency Program Director.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Eligibility to apply for pharmacist licensure in the State of California prior to the entrance into the program.
  • Completion of a personal, on-site or remote interview with the interview panel, director of the residency program and current PGY1 resident(s).
  • Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association ideally within the first month of residency program start but no later than September of the residency year.
  • Successful completion of the pre-employment process, including verification of all required licenses and certifications.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer physical exam, including a drug and alcohol screen, a physical and a TB test.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards relative to pharmacy practice.
  • Ability to actively participate in a teaching and training program.
  • Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining data files.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in communicating on a one-to-one basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak in front of large groups to present didactic course material or scientific data.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret current scientific literature.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform pharmacokinetic calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, retrieve and compile selected information from patients' medical records.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to provide, communicate and document drug information concisely.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills.
