The PGD Engineer Intern position at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) offers a unique opportunity for students to apply their engineering knowledge in a practical setting. Under direct supervision, interns will engage in a variety of assignments that require the application of engineering principles and practices. This role is designed to help interns develop their skills within a specific practice area while working on small projects or portions of larger projects. Interns will evaluate, select, and apply standard or novel techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform tasks, using their judgment to adapt methods for non-routine aspects of assignments. Interns will support the development of an equipment condition assessment tracking and risk management procedure, applying their knowledge to real-world operating failure modes experienced in the fleet. They will collaborate with various power generation teams and may analyze power generation equipment data from renewable or fossil-fueled power plants. The role may involve working with equipment experts to analyze and troubleshoot equipment problems using both new and existing techniques. Tasks may include utilizing data analytics software tools such as Excel, Python, or Matlab, applying data science principles, and performing light software coding as applicable to assignments. Interns will also prepare reports using tools like Grafana, PowerBi, and Excel, and may be involved in calculations, specifications, and scope documents, as well as generating sketches and drawings in AutoCAD format. The internship culminates in a presentation of the final project to senior leadership, providing a platform for interns to showcase their work and learning during the internship.
