About The Position

The PFS (Plant Floor Systems) Engineer is responsible for controls engineering support of a vehicle assembly facility and manufacturing processes, exercising creativity and initiative along with a high level of independent judgment. The role may involve overseeing or providing technical direction to other engineers, engineering support personnel, contractors, or skilled trades personnel to achieve project or manufacturing objectives. The successful candidate will be expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot processors in the Rockwell/Allen Bradley ControlLogix family.
  • Ability to troubleshoot EPP (Error Proofing Logic).
  • Ability to read and modify electrical prints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment level networks (Device-Net, Ethernet Network).
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Must be willing to work any shift.
  • Must be willing to work daily or weekend overtime to support vehicle production schedules and project activity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in automotive assembly.
  • Experience with software and functionality in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Plant Floor Systems support of manufacturing processes in a vehicle assembly facility.
  • Manages PFS projects including new, replacement, operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement of PFS and Error Proofing Systems.
  • Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities representing Engineering to assist in improving the plant's performance.
  • Provides technical support of all PFS equipment, direction, and training to support personnel/Skilled Trades within the organization.
  • Investigates systems and equipment problems and provides technical input in problem resolution.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and re-configure Hirschmann and/or Cisco switches.
  • Ability to create/modify DCDL properly.
  • Ability to create an Andon Board configuration file and coordinate with IT to create the proper display that serves the production line.
  • Familiar with Throughput logic/analysis to improve cycle time.
  • Familiar with GPM&C.
  • Ability to create/modify the Error Proofing Logic (EPP) for adding new trackzone, new operator stands.
  • Ability to configure/modify/add/remove EPP tasks and perform an SAT.
  • Understand how to fill the ETS tracking sheet for the Error Proofing Systems and support the UAT.
  • Familiar with PFCM system.
  • Assist in the development of a project support plan between the plant, GMNA, and contractor resources.
  • Maintains proficiency in their field.
  • Coordinate with Plant Business Teams to support/attain plant-wide goals (Business Plan Deployment).
  • Support GMS and Quality Network implementation initiatives.
  • Utilizes statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems.
  • Enforces safe work practices as the highest priority and implements objectives for ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping.
  • Maintains good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interfaces with necessary support functions outside of the Plant.
  • Develops and monitors planning timetables and projects schedules.
  • Utilizes best practices and common systems to support the overall competitive manufacturing initiative.
  • Coordinates and communicates the development of changes to improve conditions for the manufacturing processes.
  • Input into the establishment of plant budget for Central Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Ensures long term, cost effective maintenance of equipment and facility.
  • Manages projects to minimize investment cost while providing facilities that require a minimum operating cost (maximum throughput, energy efficiency, etc.).
  • Work with Plant Trainers to develop courses for New Technologies introduced to the Plant.
