About The Position

Performs a full range of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Must possess current or temporary Nuclear Medicine license as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Maryland Board of Physicians OH: Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Ohio Department of Health PA: No state license required WV: Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within six months of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
  • Ability to interact with patients, families and members of the Health Care team.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings and activities to support progress improvement and team building.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change, maintaining and improving high quality, cost effective department operations.
  • Performs a full range of PET procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.
  • Plans and performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures to produce medical images and information for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
  • Maintains professional and technical competencies as required by the organization, the accreditation and licensing bodies (where applicable).
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with WVU Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification using identified communication mechanisms to ensure the performance of radiology services.
  • Assesses patients needs related to comfort, hygiene and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
  • Performs as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy and procedure.
