Job Description: Job Purpose The purpose of the PET/NM Technologist is to perform ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols. Essential Job Functions Prepare patients for PET and NM examinations by explaining procedures. Establish and administer peripheral IV containing FDG. Handle, administer, and dispose of radioactive isotopes in compliance with Radioactive Materials Board as well as ACR. Document and log each use of radiopharmaceutical administrations. Maintain documentation regarding FDG. Position patient appropriately on the machine and perform scans requested. Verify that scanned images are appropriate, correct, and visible. Verify that scans have been received in PACS. Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety during transport to and from the scan room. Maintain technical competency through continued education and participation in training programs. Under guidance of a Radiologist, administer contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals according to protocols. Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems on all equipment and necessary components. Notify appropriate personnel of issues pertaining to PET/NM machines and other equipment. Maintain a clean environment inside the facility. Complete necessary administrative tasks. Follow quality assurance guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality. Cooperate with facility healthcare professionals and comply with facility policies/procedures. Comply with all safety policies and regulations including radiation safety. Ability to be at work regularly and on time. Other duties as assigned.
