About The Position

GENERAL SUMMARY The PET/CT Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing advanced PET and CT scanning equipment to produce detailed images of patients' anatomy and physiological processes. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, excellent patient care, and the ability to work collaboratively with radiologists and other healthcare team members to ensure high-quality imaging results Requirements ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES The responsibilities and duties described in this job description are intended to provide a general overview of the position. Duties may vary depending on the specific needs of the affiliate or location you are working at and/or state requirements. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Greet and prepare patients for CT/PET imaging procedures, explaining the process and addressing any concerns. Screen patients for contraindications to imaging, such as allergies or implanted devices. Accurately document patient information, imaging procedures, and administered substances in electronic medical records (EMR). Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. Completes all PET/CT exams and procedures, obtaining optimal images for physician review according to policy and protocol. Administer contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals as required, following established protocols and safety guidelines. Performs venous punctures using universal precautions while administering contrast media. Performs medical care as needed, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments. Work closely with radiology staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and workflow. Collaborate with radiologists to review and interpret imaging results when needed. Maintains patient confidentiality. Work with the accrediting body (ACR/IAC) for compliance and documentation. Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards to protect patients, staff, and self. Maintains, cleans and reports any issues with PET/CT equipment. Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and training sessions Performs other position related duties as assigned. Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

Requirements

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography and advanced certification in CT as required by state.
  • NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) or ARRT certification in Nuclear Medicine for PET imaging as required by state.
  • BLS certification as required by state.
  • Knowledge of routine to complex PET/CT procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of ACR accreditation.
  • Skill in operation of PET/CT equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment and related software.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
  • Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
  • Physical ability to assist patients for transfer from stretcher, wheelchair or in an emergency situation.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data. Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to make decisive judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with patients and display empathy and compassion to patients.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a clinical environment with potential exposure to radiation and infectious diseases (appropriate safety measures provided).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required including evening, weekend and on-call shifts.
  • Graduate of Accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in CT and/or PET imaging strongly preferred.
  • May be required to travel between facilities.
