About The Position

The Personnel Security Specialist position is located within the Personnel Security Operations Division (PSOD) of the Human Resources Directorate (HRD) at the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS). This role is crucial for managing and administering personnel security functions that support the Office of the Secretary of Defense and associated agencies. The incumbent will handle security clearance requests, evaluate background investigations, and ensure compliance with security policies.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service, demonstrating knowledge of personnel security policies and procedures.
• Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a combination of experience and education for GS-09 level.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service for GS-11 level, including making recommendations on security issues.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service for GS-12 level, providing advice on sensitive suitability matters.

Responsibilities

• Function as a personnel security specialist to manage security clearance requests for employees and contractors.
• Review and evaluate completed background investigations for compliance with scoping requirements.
• Recommend denials of clearances and develop written rationales to support decisions.
• Ensure compliance with Division implementation of OUSD Policy requirements for JCAVS.
