About The Position

The Personnel Security Specialist I position reviews and analyzes investigative reports to be able to correctly identify and evaluate derogatory and mitigating information and make a recommendation regarding an individual’s eligibility or continued eligibility for a Department of Energy (DOE) access authorization. The Specialist I will develop comprehensive knowledge of theories, techniques, and practices in the field of personnel security and begin to effectively apply such principles and techniques to a wide variety of problems and situations to evaluate derogatory personnel security cases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or one to three years of experience in analyzing data derived from multiple reference points for a personnel security program.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including producing easily understandable, concise reports without technical errors that are also grammatically correct.
  • Ability to analyze data and resolve issues where discrepancies may exist.
  • Ability to synthesize information and identify key findings.
  • Maintaining accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment with little supervision.
  • Proven time management skills.
  • Proven professional communication and presentation skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and experience in performing data entry.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and complete professional development training as it relates to Personnel Security.
  • Assures completeness of investigative coverage; screens investigative reports by identifying and analyzing derogatory and mitigating information, prepares detailed written case histories and case evaluations and analysis of all available information, and makes written determinations and recommends further action and processing.
  • All written products must be professionally prepared, and technically and grammatically correct without errors.
  • Case evaluation summaries include but are not limited to, investigations, reinvestigations, incident reports, letters of interrogatory and Sensitive Compartmented Information.
  • Correctly enters information and data into all required personnel security databases.
  • All other duties as assigned.
