About The Position

This position advances the mission and philosophy of FMD and serves as a key partner to the central office of Human Resources. The incumbent fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, and respect while aligning with the department and university’s goals. This position reports to the Executive Director of Customer and Business Services with a dotted line to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources serving as the Human Resource Business Partner for FMD. This position is responsible for the management and oversight of human resource functions including talent acquisition, labor and employee relations, performance management, and training within FMD. This position supports operations across two campuses, serving over 325 employees, including approximately sixty management employees and three distinct collective bargaining units, reflecting a high level of organizational complexity. This position leads the assessment, development, and continuous improvement of programs and support services for FMD. Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (A&F), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments spread across two separate locations, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of current human resources theories, principles, practices, and techniques, including the ability to design, implement, and evaluate HR programs such as training and professional development, recruitment/employment, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated practical application of facilitation, advising, coaching, mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation; ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle sensitive, complex interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate qualitative and quantitative data to support decision-making and inform diverse audiences.
  • Interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence, advise, and build effective working relationships across all organizational levels and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, and discretion in complex, ambiguous, and high-risk situations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Higher Education, Sociology, or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible human resources experience.
