About The Position

Under the direction of the Fitness Operations Supervisor, the Personal Trainer is responsible for creating and implementing exercise programs for patrons at both FitNation and the Hunt Club Community Center.

Requirements

  • Personal Trainers must be 18 years or older and possess extensive fitness knowledge.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • They must be determined and goal-oriented.
  • Trainers must maintain a courteous and friendly disposition.
  • They must be comfortable selling themselves and Personal Training sessions.
  • Personal Trainers must have obtained a certification through a nationally accredited organization such as ACSM, NASM, NETA or ACE.
  • Must possess current CPR, AED, and First-Aid Certification or obtain within six months of hire date.
  • Personal Trainers, as with all Park District employees, must believe in the Gurnee Park District mission and philosophy and work as a team member of the Gurnee Park District Fitness Staff.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and evaluates client health history questionnaires and physiological data to determine appropriate individual exercise/activity regimens.
  • Adhere to and uphold Gurnee Park District Customer Service Standards: SOFFI.
  • Promotes and sells new and recurring Personal Training sessions and packages to patrons.
  • Plans and implements individualized exercise/activity programs for clients.
  • Determines format and content of exercise program based on individual client needs.
  • Independently demonstrates and instructs clients on proper exercise technique.
  • Sets up and monitors training equipment; ensures equipment is in good condition, and notifies Supervisor of any malfunctions, problems, or repairs needed.
  • Maintains regular communication with clients.
  • Tracks clients’ progress and maintains complete and accurate client files.
  • Ensures client adherence to safety and injury prevention practices; prepares incident reports as required.
  • May provide individual guidance and support to other trainers as required.
  • Must attend all staff trainings and meetings.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Communicate information, as needed, to patrons.
  • Provide assistance to patrons as needed in the interest of Gurnee Park District.
  • Must understand and follow employee manual and procedures.
  • Must understand and know how to work all equipment properly. Personal Trainers are considered experts on proper usage of exercise equipment.
  • Perform other duties and requirements as assigned.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward all patrons at all times.
  • Wear GPD apparel when training or are otherwise on the clock.
  • Trainers must conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner at all times at work and while in uniform.
  • The District encourages its employees to “take ownership” of the District. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
