About The Position

The Personal Trainer provides Members a comprehensive and safe one-on-one or group oriented educational fitness program that will assist them in achieving their health and/or fitness goals. As a Houstonian Personal Trainer, it is your responsibility to provide a comprehensive educational fitness program that promotes a health and fitness program through realistic goal setting and education while also providing outstanding member service. Personal trainers must do this by providing members with in-depth information on correct equipment usage and lifestyle management.

Requirements

  • Must have a four-year degree.
  • Must have at least 1-year personal training experience.
  • Continuous improvement. Continuously thinking of new ideas and new programs. New program ideas can be proposed to the Fitness Director.
  • Ensuring consistency of service in all areas of the Fitness Department.
  • Maintaining working knowledge of basic concepts, trends and current research on nutrition and exercise.
  • Finding new innovative ways to increase revenue without losing the high level of continuous customer service.
  • Maintaining current certifications and attending ongoing continuing education courses, lectures, tradeshows, and conventions.
  • Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs. Must be able to work in the evening and/ or weekends occasionally.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, observant, attentive and motivated.
  • Personal interest in health, fitness, athletics, working out, nutrition or related field.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Proactive/self-motivated, seeking ways to improve the fitness facility and services.
  • Show interest in fitness industry and staying alert to those changes within the different areas of the industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Positive attitude.
  • ACE, ACSM, NASM, or NSCA Certification for Personal Training
  • C.P.R and First Aid certified
  • Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
  • Physical Stamina: Must be able to bend, push, pull and lift 30 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods at a time.
  • Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets.
  • Literacy: Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with designated Personal Trainer and/or Team Leader to be educated in performing Fitness Assessments using the Inbody or Kinotek systems.
  • Maintain client paperwork, including past workouts and health information and uphold Houstonian Fitness Department Standards.
  • Accurately record and bill client training sessions for payment purposes.
  • Address any client issues with the Houstonian Fitness Director as needed.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with assigned Team Leaders and Houstonian Fitness Director to discuss any issues, problems, concerns, etc.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain and keep all required certifications current through continuing education.
  • Take pride in each client, assisting him or her in every way possible.
  • Communicate with clients and members professionally and respond to phone calls, voice mails and emails in a timely fashion that demonstrates responsiveness and attentiveness.
  • Be punctual to all appointments; in case of emergency communicate with Fitness Staff and clients at your return time.
  • Enter in your availability into CSI scheduler so that the Fitness Manager can assign new clients, assessments, and Technogym set-ups.
  • Maintain a safe, neat workout environment. This includes re-racking weights, straightening and re-aligning equipment, re-wrapping cords, hanging handles and ropes, re-racking balls and other fitness equipment, etc.
  • Demonstrate the proper technique of how to use cardiovascular and weight machines for members.
  • Keep supervisors informed of any repairs that need to be done to the facility or on any of our equipment.
  • Scan the QR code on equipment that needs repair or service and inform the Fitness Director of any structural repairs that are needed.
  • Other duties or tasks assigned by your supervisors that are related to the Fitness Department or The Houstonian Campus.
