About The Position

A Direct Support Professional plays an integral role in a supported person's life. The DSP will provide assistance, guidance, mentoring, coaching, and teaching in many life areas such as activities of daily living, personal care, life skills, community integration, and transportation navigation. The DSP will assist the supported person in enjoying the life that they want to live and increasing their quality of life by providing excellent services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
  • Preferred DDA core competencies, Mandt Systems Training, CPR / First Aid, MTTP.
  • Experience working with people with IDD/DD preferred but not required.
  • Applicant must be able to walk, stand, and sit for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more based on assigned supported person using health and safety lifting/turning techniques or assistive devices.
  • Must be able to successfully demonstrate all Mandt Systems training physical interventions and techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with people with IDD/DD preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized supports to waiver participants in their own homes or family homes to maximize independence.
  • Support the person in accordance with the Person-Centered Plan and Behavior Support Plan (if applicable).
  • Utilize agency electronic systems for communication, progress notes, incident report filing, etc.
  • Encourage opportunities for decision making, self-help activities, and daily planning.
  • Follow the schedule agreed upon at the time of hire.
  • Share and maintain required documentation of services provided.
  • Complete and maintain required trainings in accordance with DDA/State/Company regulations, including CPR/First-Aid and Mandt System.
  • Report and document incidents within the required timeframe.
  • Foster positive, professional relationships with supported persons.
  • Document daily progress and maintain bi-weekly and/or monthly activity calendars as needed or directed.
  • Attend all trainings, team meetings, and monthly supervisions as required.
  • Check and respond to emails daily to maintain proper communication.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times when interacting with individuals, neighbors, parents, advocates, consultants, and regulatory personnel.
  • Driving and community interaction is required, including attending various events, religious services, or activities.
  • Utilize agency electronic systems for communication, time and attendance, progress notes, incident report filing, etc.
  • Must have own reliable transportation that is safe, smoke-free, with adequate insurance coverage.
