About The Position

Aroostook Home Health Services is seeking Personal Support Specialists (PSS) in ALL areas of Aroostook County. Aroostook Home Health is a non-profit organization offering a variety of home-based home health care services for Aroostook County residents since 1983. This position offers flexible scheduling up to 40 hours per week depending on applicant and client availability. Personal Support Specialist (PSS) is primarily responsible for providing direct assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), supporting clients in maintaining greater independence in their homes. Work locations needing services: Caribou Woodland New Sweden Fort Fairfield Limestone Presque Isle

Requirements

  • Driver’s License required
  • Auto Insurance required
  • Background Check required
  • Smartphone with data for Electronic Visit Verification required
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • PSS certification (must successfully be enrolled within 2 months of hire into PSS certification course and complete and obtain PSS certification within 9 months of hire)
  • Must be able to read, write and understand written and verbal instructions
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in skills needed to care for clients in their home
  • Must be able to work independently and to organize work efficiently
  • Must be able to maintain client confidentiality
  • Must be able to communicate and cooperate effectively
  • Must have maturity to deal effectively with the job

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with chronically ill, disabled or elderly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring and toileting.
  • Assist clients in preparing for personal care (setting out clothes, grooming items, bath prep).
  • Perform light housekeeping: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, washing dishes, cleaning stove and refrigerator.
  • Prepare and serve meals.
  • Run errands such as grocery shopping and picking up prescriptions.
  • Offer respite care and assistance with other tasks outlined in the client’s plan of care.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and HIPPA
  • Utilize Electronic Visit Verification to log all client visits and completed tasks
  • Will assume other responsibilities deemed necessary and in the best interest of the organization as requested by Executive Director.
