About The Position

The Person‑In‑Charge (P.I.C.) is responsible for overseeing store operations in the absence of the Store Director, Assistant Store Directors, or other salaried leaders. This role ensures the store operates safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards while providing support to associates and exceptional service to customers.

Requirements

  • Prior retail or grocery store experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to lead others and provide clear direction.
  • Dependability and proven ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of basic store operations, cash handling, and safety practices.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the acting store leader during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure all departments follow operational standards, merchandising execution, and service expectations.
  • Address immediate concerns, operational disruptions, or urgent issues requiring leadership attention.
  • Monitor store conditions throughout the shift, including cleanliness, safety, and staffing coverage.
  • Support a friendly, customer‑focused environment by modeling excellent service.
  • Address customer concerns or escalations promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure front‑end service expectations are met, including line management and associate assistance.
  • Conduct safety walks and enforce compliance with all store safety protocols.
  • Respond to accidents, spills, and emergency situations following company guidelines.
  • Support front‑end operations with cash handling oversight, including safe counts and register audits.
  • Partner with Asset Protection when needed regarding security risks or incidents.
  • Monitor in‑stock conditions and partner with department teams to resolve immediate gaps.
  • Ensure store opening and closing procedures are executed fully and accurately.
  • Verify that associates are completing required tasks, including cleaning, recovery, and restocking.
  • Communicate shift‑based issues to store leadership for follow‑up.
  • Provide direction to associates to maintain productivity and workload balance across departments.
  • Support new or inexperienced associates by answering questions and reinforcing expectations.
  • Promote a positive work environment through professional communication and teamwork.
  • Document and relay any key shift notes to Store Leadership.
