About The Position
Total Safety is seeking a dedicated Permit Writer to join our safety-conscious team. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and compliance of our operations, particularly in the petrochemical and refining industries. The Permit Writer will report directly to the Professional Services Manager of Field Safety Services and will be responsible for issuing and writing various types of work permits, including safe work permits, hot work permits, and confined space entry permits. The successful candidate will perform job site safety audits and assist in compliance with client safety programs and policies. As a Permit Writer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe work environment by conducting thorough audits of compliance with regulatory agency requirements. You will monitor contractor work activities, report any deficiencies, and participate in safety meetings as scheduled by management. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining trend tracking documentation as required by client management and monitoring housekeeping throughout the work area. In addition, you will assist with incident investigations and perform gas testing to issue permits for general, hot work, and confined space work. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of federal, state, local, company, and client regulations, along with the ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to interact with various stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, and contractors. You will also facilitate and participate in Job Safety Analysis and assist in safety oversight of non-routine procedures, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed diligently. This position requires a proactive approach to safety and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and compliance. You will be expected to provide leadership and positive support for the facility's safety program, ensuring that all work is conducted safely and efficiently. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the overall safety performance of our operations, making you an integral part of our team.
