About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor Plans Examiner, the Permit Technician reviews, accepts, distributes, processes, documents and maintains departmental information, reports, plans, specifications, applications, permits and related inspections according to the established guidelines. The employee works with numerous record or forms, receives and prepares information for further processing or record keeping and performs critical tasks and explains procedures, related codes and ordinances. The majority of the work involves receiving permit applications and reviewing them for correctness and routing to proper departments. The employee has constant contact with the public, which requires simple courtesies and the exercise of tact and diplomacy. The employee will issue building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, sign, demolition and moving permits and maintains files on all issued permits. The employee provides dependable clerical, typing, and data entry support and performs a variety of office tasks and reports information which may require research from different sources.
