About The Position

The Permit Expeditor / Permitting Specialist supports the Development Department by managing and facilitating the permitting process with municipal, county, and regulatory agencies. This role serves as the primary liaison between the company and permitting authorities, ensuring the timely preparation, submission, tracking, and retrieval of permits, licenses, and compliance documents required for development and construction projects.

Requirements

  • Experience interacting with local governments, building departments, planning departments, or regulatory agencies.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional interaction with external agencies.
  • Proficiency with permit portal software (e.g., Accela, EnerGov, or similar systems) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid drivers license with the ability to travel to city and county offices as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, blueprints, and floor plans.
  • Ability to write clear correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or bachelors degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and submit permit applications, plans, supporting documentation, and fees to city, county, and other authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Track permit submissions, monitor review status, and follow up with reviewers to resolve comments, deficiencies, and requests for revisions.
  • Retrieve approved permits, Certificates of Use, Certificates of Occupancy, inspection results, and related approvals in person or electronically.
  • Maintain accurate permit logs, schedules, deadlines, and internal tracking systems for multiple active projects.
  • Serve as liaison between internal teams (project managers, architects, engineers, contractors) and city/county officials.
  • Coordinate inspections, schedule appointments, and confirm compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Communicate permit status updates, issues, and requirements to internal stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Research and interpret applicable local codes, regulations, zoning requirements, and submittal criteria to ensure accurate and complete applications.
  • Assist with resolving code enforcement matters and ensure corrective documentation is submitted as required.
