About The Position

The Perishable Sales Specialist at C&S focuses on consulting and advising retail customers to enhance fresh market share and increase perishable revenue and profitability. This role involves engaging with decision-makers and independent retailers to support the sales and merchandising of meat, deli, and produce categories, while also working to expand the volume of products and programs offered by the company.

Requirements

  • Understanding of all technical and managerial supermarket functions
  • Knowledge of product procurement and vendor relations, particularly in perishables
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong time management, negotiating abilities, and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal relationship skills and understanding of financials related to supermarkets P&L's
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Food Safety Certified or eligible for Food Safety Certification
  • 2-5 years of retail and wholesale perishables category experience
  • Associate Degree in General Studies or Bachelor's Degree in General Studies

Responsibilities

  • Executing quarterly sell programs
  • Supporting reset activities, including new store/red-design set-up
  • Providing regular category training on new items, merchandising, and departmental best practices
  • Informing special activities, demand forecasts, product surveys, and promotional bookings
  • Optimizing category assortment and addressing key category voids in collaboration with Category Management and merchandising/procurement teams
  • Assisting fresh department managers, owners, and supervisors with product selection and training on new products
  • Establishing proper gross profits for departments and assisting in writing ads using ad programs
  • Maintaining the product list with acceptable retails
  • Making routed individual store visits to assist retailers in maintaining business relationships
  • Selling special buy programs and associated merchandising programs
  • Informing retailers and team of competitive activities both locally and nationally
  • Conducting sales of new programs and services, explaining the company's offerings to retailer's buyers
