About The Position

The Perioperative Services Tech supports the surgical team by performing a variety of duties related to patient care, environmental maintenance, and supply handling in the operating room and perioperative areas. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, this position plays a key role in preparing the surgical environment and ensuring safe, efficient care for patients undergoing procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lift 20¿50 lbs occasionally, 11¿25 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly.
  • Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting.
  • Ability to perform close visual work including reading, typing, and inspecting sterile items.
  • Physical demands and tasks may vary based on assigned area.
  • Exposure to potential hazards such as blood-borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, communicable diseases, and radiation.
  • Working conditions include varying temperatures, indoor/outdoor transitions, and patient care environments.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, as required.
  • May involve shift work and occasional travel.

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN, or Surgical Technologist.
  • May assist with set up of operating rooms for surgical procedures.
  • Opens sterile supplies and instruments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, ensuring proper aseptic technique is followed.
  • Stocks, sets up, and maintains specialty carts and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and instruments in a clean and aseptic condition.
  • Performs routine cleaning, disinfection, and trash removal in the perioperative environment.
  • May assist with transporting patients safely to and from the operating area.
  • Replenishes stock of supplies, medications (as permitted), and linens before, during, and after procedures.
  • Provides excellent customer service by greeting and assisting patients, family members, and healthcare team members.
  • Complies with hospital policies and safety standards, including infection control and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support perioperative services.
