About The Position

The Perioperative RN is responsible for providing high‑quality nursing care across Pre‑Operative, Post‑Operative, and Surgical services. This role will be cross‑trained in all perioperative areas; however, staff may initially be assigned to a primary area while training progresses. Responsibilities include evaluating patient conditions, preparing patients for surgery, assisting during procedures, monitoring recovery, and responding to patient needs during routine and emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • RN licensed in the State of South Carolina.
  • BLS/ACLS certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in a perioperative or operating room setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient‑service skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-moving surgical environment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR/reporting systems.
  • High attention to detail, integrity, and dependability.

Responsibilities

  • Admit and prepare patients for the pre‑operative area, reviewing histories, assessments, and physician orders.
  • Receive patients into the post‑operative area, review post‑operative reports, monitor patient status, and document findings.
  • Provide general nursing care, administer medications, and manage prescribed treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assist with surgical procedures, including circulating duties, patient positioning, equipment preparation, and maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Monitor patient condition throughout the perioperative process and report unusual symptoms or complications to anesthesia or the physician.
  • Maintain accurate medication, supply, and documentation controls including nurse’s notes, EMR charting, and test result posting.
  • Instruct and counsel patients and families regarding procedures, treatments, medications, and recovery expectations.
  • Ensure clean, safe, and fully stocked pre‑op, post‑op, and surgical environments.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, emergency response ability, and adherence to all HIPAA, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support efficient patient flow and collaborate with clinical teams to ensure optimal perioperative care delivery.
