About The Position

The Perioperative Nurse Educator promotes quality evidenced based nursing practice through education and professional development of all perioperative staff to provide a continuum of care model from admission to discharge from perioperative services. The position is located in the heart of Washington, surrounded by open skies, snow-capped mountains, and the lakes and rivers of the high desert. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSN).
  • A minimum of two years of OR experience and four years of current nursing.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and teaching abilities.
  • Basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
  • Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499).
  • Minimum of one unit Specific Certifications (i.e. ASPAN, AAMI, CNOR, SGNA).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree (MSN) preferred or other appropriate degree.
  • Scrub experience.
  • Oscopy, PACU, Pre-op experience, and/or sterile processing experience.
  • Formal experience teaching adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform related assignments as requested to promote positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.
  • Collaborate with the Director/Clinical Manager to determine education needs for each unit.
  • Create education and perform audits in preop, PACU, Oscopy, Sterile processing, and the operating room.
  • Provide teaching and facilitate evidenced based learning with staff to optimize patient outcomes in the clinical area in many settings both formal and informal.
  • Organize educational programs including PowerPoint presentations, setting up Reps to come teach, opportunities for CEU's, and audits.
  • Promote skill development through formal classroom education, one-on-one interaction and alongside staff on the unit(s).
  • Recognize needs of shift work and schedule time with staff on the various clinical shifts.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager, direct orientation of new nurses.
  • Facilitate orientation and assist with evaluation of core clinical competencies.
  • Provide schedule, preceptors, and planned educational events for the Periop 101 interns, oscopy techs, CST's, and sterile processing techs.
  • Serve as a consultant, mentor and role model to staff.
  • Provide input to the Clinical Nurse Manager for evaluations of nursing staff.
  • Assist with competencies for RN's, CST's, Anesthesia Techs, SST's, Oscopy Techs, CNA/MA's, and sterile processing techs.
  • Assist the Clinical Manager/Director in developing, presenting, and implementing best practices for nursing area.
  • Work with the Manager of Clinical Development to instruct standard work best practices to establish and maintain consistency in nursing care among all CH units and service lines.
  • Participate in improvement projects focused on achievement of annual goals and assist to ensure implementation of and adherence to improvement changes.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional responsibility and performance.
  • Establish programs to assist staff pursuing certification.
  • Promote a team environment which enhances interdepartmental partnership and cooperation.
  • In partnership with the Clinical Nurse Manager, establish an annual unit level in-service plan with goals, timeframes and documentation processes.
  • Conduct air way fire, laser safety, and fire safety drills.
  • Adhere to Confluence Health policies and unit standards as applicable.
  • Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
