About The Position

Are you interested in becoming an Operating Room Nurse? M Health Fairview is hiring for our Perioperative 101 RN, who after training/education is complete will work at the University of Minnesota Medical Center on the East Bank campus in Minneapolis. About our OR at UMMC East Bank: The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital and has 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms. Our Operating Room is performing an average of 60 cases per day. We provide innovative surgical suites for adult patients needing surgical intervention. For more information about our East Bank OR, please watch our video here. Come join our team today! Date: Program begins on June 8, 2026and will continue for approximately four (4) months. Days/Hours: Training will take place Monday through Friday, hours will vary. This training program is full-time (80 hours per two-week pay period) for the duration of the program. The position after training at UMMC West Bank is full time and will require rotating weekend, holiday and call hours Cost: We use AORN curriculum which is paid by M Health Fairview Committment: One year after completion of orientation The Operating Room RN provides services as a circulating nurse and is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for the patient undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room. The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. The Perioperative 101 program is learner centered and structured. It is designed to provide specialized skills and knowledge in Perioperative nursing. Learning modules are presented through lectures, demonstrations and videos. Learning is reinforced in the lab and clinical setting. The classroom didactic, hands-on lab experiences and clinical practicum take place Monday through Friday on the day shift, however hours can vary. The method of evaluation will include chapter post-tests, final examination, skill demonstrations and preceptor observation in the clinical setting. Provides 41.7 continuing education contact hours after successful completion. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A current Minnesota RN license by start date.
  • Current BLS certification with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider required at the time of application.
  • Must have a strong desire/career goal to work as a RN in the Operating Room environment.
  • Current Fairview employees must have been in their current position for a minimum for 6 months and performance in previous/current Fairview jobs will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN, BAN, Master’s degree in nursing or higher
  • Previous experience in acute care nursing RN, surgical tech/technologist or as a anesthesia aide.
  • Completion of a perioperative nursing course at a community or technical college.
  • One year of nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)
