About The Position

The Perinatal Technician (PNT) performs surgical scrub duties, maintains acceptable levels of supplies, and provides timely turnover of patient areas. The Perinatal Tech transports non-controlled medications to and from pharmacy. The PNT transports non-controlled medications to and from pharmacy. The PNT assists the nursing and medical staff by acting as receptionist, unit liaison, unit secretary and Certified Nursing Assistant for the nursing unit. The Perinatal Technician performs selected nursing procedures as defined in the Patient Care Standards Manual Nursing Procedure Manual. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Perinatal Technician provides a support function to the nurse by coordinating special tasks and assisting where needed. The Perinatal Technician collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.

Requirements

  • One year experience utilizing clerical, computer, and receptionist skills
  • Current CNA Certification with the CA Department of Health Services Licensing & Certification Board OR current licensure with the California Board of Vocational Nursing (Those employees who were classified as Perinatal Techs prior to August 2008 who did not have their CNA certification at that time will be grandfathered in without this requirement.)
  • Current CPR recognition
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Must demonstrate technical competence
  • Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public
  • Must show sensitivity for the hospitalized patient and family
  • Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment
  • Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Capable of using computers for a variety of support functions
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in perinatal unit or hospital environment
  • Previous surgical scrub experience
  • Knowledge or experience with ancillary areas (Housekeeping, Central Supply, Lab, or clerical) desirable.
