About The Position

The Perinatal Sonographer at Wellstar Health System, Inc. is responsible for performing both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic level II ultrasounds aimed at diagnosing complex fetal anomalies. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying cardiac defects, intracranial defects, and other systemic defects. The role requires the sonographer to assist and perform ultrasounds during guided procedures such as genetic amniocentesis, amnioreductions, and chorionic villus sampling. The position demands a high level of independence, as the sonographer must be able to perform job functions autonomously while ensuring the highest quality of diagnostic studies. The sonographer is expected to set up the necessary equipment for imaging services and position patients correctly for procedures. A critical aspect of the role is the ability to provide proper high-level disinfection of ultrasound probes. Flexibility in work hours is essential to meet the needs of the department, and the sonographer must demonstrate dependability, accountability, and cooperation in all tasks. The position also requires a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of ultrasound, including the ability to adjust techniques to maintain image quality while minimizing radiation exposure. Effective communication is vital, as the sonographer will interact with physicians, genetic counselors, and other team members regarding ultrasound findings. The role also involves maintaining an Excel spreadsheet to track diagnoses and ensuring that all studies are properly documented and labeled. The sonographer will participate in quality control measures, ensuring that all equipment is operational and that all studies are sent to PACS immediately after completion. Overall, the Perinatal Sonographer plays a crucial role in the maternal-fetal medicine team, contributing to the care and diagnosis of patients through advanced imaging techniques.
