About The Position

The Perfusionist II is responsible for operating extracorporeal circulation equipment to support or temporarily replace a patient's circulatory or respiratory function during medical procedures. This role involves working under the direction of attending physicians, managing patients' physiological functions, and ensuring the safe operation of complex perfusion equipment in various clinical settings, including operating rooms and ICUs. The Perfusionist II performs both routine and advanced clinical duties, adhering to established protocols and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Active certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot various types of perfusion equipment.
  • Experience in managing patients' physiological functions during surgery.
  • Proficiency in basic perfusion techniques and ECMO support modalities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Mechanical Circulatory Support Devices.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology related to perfusion and blood components.
  • Ability to participate in research studies and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Operate extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical procedures.
  • Manage patients' physiological functions throughout surgical procedures.
  • Set up and operate heart-lung machines and other monitoring equipment.
  • Regulate patients' oxygen and carbon dioxide levels as directed by the surgical team.
  • Administer blood products and medications through the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit as prescribed.
  • Monitor blood gases and anticoagulation levels during procedures.
  • Provide consultation on equipment selection and techniques to physicians.
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate records of procedures.
